The acting police chief of southern Urozgan has been killed in an armed attack on his way from Dehrawoud District to the provincial police headquarters in capital Tireen Kot.
Officials say General Gulab Khan went out of police headquarters to check on security check posts and when he was returning he was attacked in Sarkhuram area between Dehrawoud District and Tireen Kot at around 11:00 PM last night.
A civilian is also killed in the attack. A soldier who was accompanying Khan during the visit is escaped unharmed who is arrested on the suspension that he might have had connection with the attackers. He is currently under further investigation.
General Gulab Khan was previously head of the criminal investigation department at the police headquarters of Urozgan province but he was assigned as the acting police chief for this province.
He was assigned to this post after Matiullah Khan the police chief of Urozgan was killed in a suicide attack in Kabul in March.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
