The Pakistani army chief of staff General Raheel Sharif has said Pakistan will not allow anyone to use its soil against Afghanistan, a statement which comes in contrast with the Afghan officials’ remarks, claiming that the Taliban group and the notrious Haqqani terrorist network use safe havens in Pakistan to plan and coordinate attacks in Afghanistan.
Gen. Sharif made the remarks during a visit to Waziristan tribal region on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing for the country’s military, said “Gen. Sharif stated that our operations against terrorists of all hue and colour will continue.”
He said “AS consolidation goes on and operation dividends optimised for Pak-Afghan border regin, Pakistan wont’ allow anyone ot use its soil against Afghanistan.”
Gen. Sharif instructed all commands, intelligence agencies and LEAs to take concrete measure against violators, insisting that “Peace and stability along Pak-Afghan border remains our priority, towards which will commit all our effforts.”
In the meantime, the Afghan officials insist that the Taliban group and the Haqqani network enjoy from the immunity and safe havens provided to the groups inside the Pakistani soil to carry out attacks in Afghanistan.
The US Senator John Mccain asked Pakistan last week to take practical steps against the notorious Haqqani terrorist network which is accused of numerous deadly attacks in Afghanistan.
In his meeting with the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, Senator McCain said he asked the Pakistani officials to take steps in fight against terrorism, insisting that a good environment has been created to eliminate the menace of terrorism.
Senator McCain further added that the United States will continue to support Afghanistan until terrorism has fully uprooted from the country and the region.
The Haqqani terrorist network is accused of staging numerous cross-border attacks from their base in North Waziristan, including the 19-hour siege at the US Embassy in Kabul in September 2011.
Haqqani network was formed in the late 1970s by Jalaluddin Haqqani. The group is allied with al-Qaida and the Afghan Taliban and cooperates with other terrorist organizations in the region.
The network is considered the most lethal insurgent group targeting the NATO-led coalition security forces and Afghan personnel in Afghanistan.
The US Department of State designated the HQN as a Foreign Terrorist Organization on September 7, 2012.a
