The NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) Mission strongly condemned the suicide attack by Taliban militants in capital Kabul on Sunday morning which left at least three people dead and over 20 others injured.
The alliance following a statement said “Headquarters Resolute Support strongly condemns the attack by Taliban militants that killed and injured several people, including women and children, near the Kabul International Airport May 17, 2015.”
The statement further added “Despite claims that they will not target civilians, this attack is another example of how the Taliban continue to demonstrate complete disregard for innocent women and children when perpetrating their attacks.”
“We are appalled by the Taliban’s lack of concern for civilian casualties, particularly women and children, as they continue their campaign of terror against those trying to move Afghanistan forward,” said Brig. Gen. Wilson Shoffner, Resolute Support Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications. “We are also saddened to learn of the loss of a teammate from the European Union Police Advisory Mission – an organization that has contributed significantly to the development of the Afghan National Police.”
“On behalf of General Campbell, Headquarters Resolute Support expresses its condolences to the families affected by this act of violence by the Taliban. We remain committed to assisting our Afghan partners in achieving sustainable security and stability,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Interior said a suicide bomber detonated a vehicle packed with explosives close to the entrance of Hamid Karzai International Airport.
Sediq Sediqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, said at least two women were killed and 21 others including three foreign nationals were injured.
The European Union Police Mission in Afghanistan confirmed that one of their service members was killed and three others were injured in the attack.
