Human rights organization Hengaw reported that the Islamic Republic has executed an Afghan prisoner on charges of murder in Shiraz Central Prison. The organization added that the number of Afghan prisoners executed this year has reached 63.
On Wednesday, November 27, Hengaw reported that the execution order for Nazmuddin, a 27-year-old from Mazar-i-Sharif who lived in Shiraz, was carried out in Adelabad Prison in the province.
According to the organization, Nazmuddin had been arrested a year ago on charges of “premeditated murder” and was sentenced to death. Hengaw’s report stated that his execution took place on Saturday, November 23.
Despite widespread opposition from international human rights organizations, Iran continues to carry out death sentences.
The ongoing execution of Afghan prisoners in Iran highlights the continuing human rights concerns regarding the use of the death penalty, particularly for foreign nationals.
