journalist killed in Badakhshan_censoredA freelance reporter was brutally killed in an explosion apparently triggered by a hand grenade in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local government officials, the reporter was identified as Yama and was killed in his residence in Faizabad, the capital city of Badakhshan province.

Provincial police spokesman Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai said the hand grenade was fixed in the door of Yama’s house and exploded when he opened the door.

Ahmadzai further added that Yama was asked by a number of unknown individuals through telephone call to come out of his house.

No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

The brutal murder of Yama was strongly condemned by Afghan Journalist Safety Committee (AJSC), a media advocate independent group, has condemned the incident.

According to the Kabul based AJSC group, at least 39 cases of threat and violence against journalists have been recorded during the first half of 2015, reflecting a decline by 43 percent compared to the first six months of last year.

At least one Afghan journalist has been killed and four others wounded during the period, AJSC said.
