Father of the Chief Justice Sayed Yousuf Halim who was kidnapped by gunmen over a week before has been released unharmed.
Officials said Sayed Hassan, 90, was released in a special operation and mediation of tribal elders on Tuesday morning.
Salim Khan Kundozi, governor of Nangarhar said Sayed Hassan has reunited with his family after about 13 days.
Hassan was on his way to a mosque in third sector of Jalalabad city, capital of Nangarhar province, when gunmen kidnapped him about 13 days before.
No further details have been released to into the case.
Nangarhar which was one of the comparatively secured provinces of the country is now witnessing some of its worst security.
