
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced a significant upsurge in the export of Afghan carpets, with a remarkable 30% increase over the past four months compared to last year.
Based on the ministry data covering the past four months, from March 21 to July 2022, Afghan carpets valued at over $5 million have been successfully exported to various countries. These include Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Italy, and Uzbekistan.
“During the initial three months of the first quarter of [solar year] 1402, carpet exports reached $4 470, 000,” according to Abdul Salam Jawad, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce spokesperson.
Several carpet exporters have significantly mentioned a remarkable increase in direct exports of Afghanistan’s carpets to European and American countries.
The Union of Carpet Producers and Exporters highlights the significant positive influence of international exhibitions on promoting Afghanistan’s handwoven carpet industry. The hosting of these exhibitions has proven to be a crucial factor in driving a notable
increase in carpet exports.
“We recently witnessed a triumphant exhibition in Astana, Kazakhstan. We remain optimistic that such exhibitions will continue to be organized, allowing us to showcase our products,” according to Noor Ahmad Noori, head of the Union of Carpet Producers and Exporters.
According to Ministry of Industry and Commerce data, Afghanistan’s carpet exports reached around $22 million last year (Solar year).
In 2022, the carpet industry experienced significant growth, focusing on pivotal markets such as Pakistan, Turkey, the United States, Uzbekistan, and the United Arab Emirates, propelling its global presence and impact.
