The commander of the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission Gen. John F Campbell said Saturday that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group is actively recruiting militants in Afghanistan.
Gen. Campbell further added that the terror group is not operational in the country yet and insisted that Afghans largely did not agree with the ideology of the terror group.
According to Gen. Campbell the Taliban fighters based in Afghanistan and Pakistan are attracted by the sophisticated social-media campaign of the terror group.
The remarks by Gen. Campbell comes as the Afghan national security advisor Hanif Atmar said earlier this month that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group is looking to have access to drugs market by starting operations in Afghanistan.
Atmar also warned that the terror group wants to expand its operations not only in Afghanistan but the whole region and wants infiltrate in Central Asian countries.
According to Atmar, the ISIS group is led by a Pakistani militant and the group recognizes no boundaries since they have already declared the regional countries in their map as Khurasan province.
