Two civilians killed, six wounded in explosion in Maidan Wardak

Two civilians have been killed and six others wounded in a landmine in Maidan Wardak province.

Local officials confirming the incident say it happened in Sultankhil area of Dai Mirdad District this morning.

The group of civilians was traveling in a “TownAce” vehicle from one village to another that ran over a landmine leaving two people killed and six others including a woman and two childern wounded.

Those wounded have been transported to the Dai Mirdad District Hospital for treatment.

Abdul Majid Khogyani, acting governor of Maidan Wardak province has expressed sorrow over the incident and condemned those behind the explosion.

United Nations are deeply concerned over the landmines Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) threatening civilian lives in Afghanistan.

United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) issuing earlier said that there was an increase of 16 percent in civilian casualties in Afghan war and the second biggest cause behind was IEDs.

UNAMA asked all sides involved in Afghan war to reduce civilian casualties.
