28 militants have been killed in fresh security operations in different parts of the country.
A statement issued Sunday morning by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) states that the operations were carried out in Kandahar, Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Faryab, Jowzjan, Ghazni, Badakhshan, Herat, Paktiya, Helmand and Logar provinces in past 24 hours.
According to the statement 28 insurgents were killed and 21 others wounded during the separate operations.
MoI statement adds that Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police and personnel from the National Directorate of Security took part in the operation where they also discovered and defused 52 different types of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
UN reports that IEDs are the second biggest cause of the increase in civilian casualties during the Afghan war.
