
Two women in Iran have been arrested after a man attacked them with yoghurt due to not covering their hair in public.
A video of the incident went viral on social media. It showed two female customers being approached by a man in a grocery shop who threw yoghurt over their heads for not wearing Hijab in public.
The two women were detained for showing their hair publicly, which is illegal in Iran. Simultaneously, the man was arrested for disturbing the public order, the report said, BBC reported.
Iran’s judiciary director has warned to arrest women “without mercy” who are seen in public without a hijab.
The incident came after months of protests in the country demanding an end to the compulsory wearing of the hijab.
In September (2022). Mahsa Amini was arrested in Tehran for not wearing Hijab. She was detained by the Iranian police, beaten into a coma and died on 16th September 2022.
Since then, vast protests have taken place in solidarity with Amini, asking for the removal of compulsory covering hair or Hijab.
On the other hand, the government of Iran arrested thousands of protesters, executed four of them and injured several others in the protests.
The government of Iran insist that Iranian women should wear the Hijab as a “religious necessity” and “Hijab is a legal matter and adherence to it is obligatory,” Said Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi quoted by AFP news agency.
