Afghan president Hamid Karzai has extended his stay in Pakistan for another day on the request of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, presidential palace officials said on Monday.
Aimal Faizi, spokesman for president Hamid Karzai said the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif requested president Karzai to extend his stay in Pakistan, in a bid to hold further talks regarding the Afghan peace process.
This comes as Afghan ambassador to Pakistan, Omar Daudzai earlier said that there was a possibility that president Karzai extend his stay in Pakistan, if there was any progress in talks.
President Hamid Karzai was due to return back to Afghanistan on Monday afternoon, however, he is expected to return on Tuesday after his stay was extended.
According to reports, Tuesday’s talks will be focused on Afghan peace process, which will be attended by chairman of the high peace council of Afghanistan, Salahuddin Rabbani and other members of the peace council.
Aimal Faizi said, the delegation of the Afghan officials will hold more talks on the Afghan peace negotiations, security related issues with the Pakistani officials.
He said the issue of Taliban prisoner’s release from Pakistan jails was also discussed with the Pakistan officials, in a bid to accelerate the Afghan peace talks.
