Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, presidential contender in the second round of election, said Saturday that his team welcomes the audit and recount of votes in 1930 polling stations.
Ghani said his team is obeying the national interest and welcomes the independent election commission (IEC’s) decision to recount votes for the sake of transparency.
He emphasized that the partial results must be releaed by IEC by Monday and said there are no technical issues facing the announcement of the partial results.
“Further delay in the election results are unacceptable to us and it will create serious doubts & mistrust of people on the election process,” Ghani said.
He also called on Dr. Abdullah Abdullah’s team to be considerate to the process and said the deadlock has incurred enormous financial loss to the country.
“Millions of dollars in investments have been lost and several deals have been postponed due to the current electoral impasse,” Ghani said.
He also added that the investigation process should be conducted in all provinces with suspicious votes and not only in certain provinces.
The preliminary votes for the runoff presidential election was due to be released by the independent election commission (IEC) last Wednesday.
However, the IEC officials said the release has been delayed to ensure transparency in vote counting process.
