According to a senior French diplomat in India, Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be specially invited by the French government for the Cannes Film Festival.
The festival is scheduled to be organized later this year which will also celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema.
This comes as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was awarded a civilian trophy by the French government last year, for her contribution to the arts on the occasion of her birthday.
French Ambassador to India Francois Richier told reporters on Sunday, Aishwarya is always respected in France because of her association with the Cannes film festival.
Richier quoted by India Today said, “She is very dear to our heart and we are very grateful to her.”
She onferred the civilian award to the actress on behalf of the French government, said the ambassador adding that, “The Cannes festival will have a special focus on Indian Cinema where we will invite Indian film stars.”
He also added that Aishwarya’s French connection is a long one, right from the time she has been endorsing a French cosmetic brand.
