His remarks come amid intensified international scrutiny following Iran’s violent crackdown on nationwide protests, which has drawn condemnation from European governments and global human rights organizations.
The European Parliament has held an emergency session on Iran and is preparing a resolution condemning the violence, while European Commission officials have signaled plans for additional sanctions in solidarity with protesters.
At the same time, reports indicate a significant increase in U.S. military movements toward the Middle East, including the deployment of aerial refueling tankers, Patriot and THAAD air defense systems, and the advance of a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group.
Military analysts note that the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group has reportedly disabled its tracking systems, a step often associated with heightened operational readiness before potential military action.
In an opinion article, Araghchi warned that a full-scale confrontation would be prolonged and devastating, impacting not only the Middle East but also global economic stability and civilian lives worldwide.
Regional diplomats have urged Washington to avoid further escalation, cautioning that any miscalculation could ignite a conflict that would be difficult to contain.
