The International Red Cross Committee states that the spread of poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan has greatly affected the lives of many people.
This committee stated this issue in its recent report, updated on Thursday. Natural incidents such as droughts, floods, and earthquakes, along with the suspension of international aid and sanctions on Afghanistan’s banking system, have been cited as reasons for the expansion of poverty in the country.
The Red Cross added that half of Afghanistan’s population is in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
The Afghanistan section of this committee, referring to a recent Save the Children report, stated that one-fifth of families in Afghanistan have been forced to burden their children with heavy labor due to a decrease in income resources.
According to Save the Children’s estimate, approximately one million children work in Afghanistan, and many of these families are led by women.
The organization acknowledges that Afghanistan’s economic problems are understandable. In the committee’s report, a 43-year-old man is quoted as earning between 100 to 150 Afghanis daily, an amount insufficient to meet a family’s needs. Despite this, the Red Cross emphasizes that many people in Afghanistan are unemployed and struggle to obtain essential food and other necessities.
The committee is trying to help with the rising poverty and joblessness in Afghanistan, especially as winter is coming. During this season, people not only need basic necessities but also fuel to stay warm in the cold weather.
