The World Food Program has announced that it will require $23 million in the next seven months to assist the earthquake victims in Herat.

On Monday, Hsiao-Wei Lee, a director of the World Food Program, passionately appealed for aid to the earthquake-affected residents of Herat. He shared a heartfelt message in his social media platform X, urging support and assistance for those impacted by the catastrophic earthquake.

He emphasized that thousands of earthquake-affected families in Herat are in urgent need of assistance. He noted that the requested amount will be used for food aid and reconstructing homes for 120,000 people.

Earlier, the World Food Program had warned that the earthquake victims in Herat need more assistance, and their organization’s budget is running low.

Additionally, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) had requested over $93 million to help the earthquake-affected individuals in Herat. According to their office, only 26% of the requested funds for aiding Herat’s earthquake victims have been secured.

This comes as reports indicate that the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 in Herat province has resulted in more than two thousand casualties and the destruction of dozens of villages.
