The former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has apologized over a Twitter post regarding the Afghanistan cricketers, forcing the Afghanistan Cricket Board to react regarding his statement.
In his Twitter post on Monday, Chopra said “What does Oman, Hong Kong, UAE, Afghanistan and Pakistan have in common? All of them have Pakistani fast bowlers opening the innings.”
The majority of the Afghan cricketers took to their social media accounts to react regarding the statement.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) also reacted towards the tweet, saying “@cricketaakash It is not fair to give statement. All players playing for Afghanistan and pure Afghans.”
Noticing his mistake, Chopra replied to the Twitter message by Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). “Stand corrected…unconditional apology. I was ref to the time some have spent in Pakistan during formative years!”
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) stressed in another Twitter message, saying “@cricketaakash add to your knowledge @ACBofficials have strong domestic structure and all players produced in Afghanistan.”
The Twitter message by Chopra came amid frustrations among the Afghan players who have missed the opportunity to participate in Asia Cup.
The Afghan team was not qualified for the Asia Cup despite placed among the top 10 in International Cricket Council (ICC) Twenty20 ranking.
