District police chief for Farsi district in western Herat province was killed following an explosion on Monday morning.
According to local government officials, at least four policemen were also martyred following the blast which took place around 6:00 am local time.
Provincial police spokesman, Abdul Rauf Ahmadi, said the district police chief, Sher Ahmad Khan was killed while he was on his way to district center and his vehicle struck with an improvised explosive device (IED).
Ahmadi confirmed that four policemen were also killed following the explosion.
No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.
Taliban militants frequently use improvised explosive device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target Afghan and coalition forces.
