Iran’s state television recently unveiled the latest ballistic missile developed by the country’s Ministry of Defense, named “E’temad” (Trust).
The missile was showcased on Sunday, February 2, in Tehran during a ceremony attended by Iran’s President, Masoud Pezeshkian. Iranian TV aired footage of the missile, calling it the “latest ballistic missile” created by the Iranian Ministry of Defense.
According to Iranian military officials, the missile is 16 meters long and has a diameter of 1.25 meters with 1,700 km range. Iran claims that the “E’temad” missile features a guided warhead that remains on target until impact.
For a long time, Western countries have expressed concerns over Iran’s missile program, labeling it a “destabilizing factor in the Middle East.” The new missiles unveiled by Iran have the capability of reaching Israeli territory. Israel was attacked twice last year by Iran, during a period when the Gaza conflict had spread to other regions.
The unveiling of the new missile comes amid ongoing concerns by Western nations about Iran’s ballistic missile development, which they view as a threat to the stability of the Middle East.
In response, European Union foreign ministers approved new sanctions on October 14 of last year in Luxembourg, targeting individuals and entities involved in the production and delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia. According to the German news agency, the EU has repeatedly warned that the transfer of these missiles to Russia is a concerning development.
The U.S., the UK, and the EU believe that Russia has used these missiles in its war with Ukraine, exacerbating the crisis and causing further human suffering.
The unveiling of Iran’s new missile highlights the growing tensions in the region, particularly between Iran and Israel, as well as the broader international community. Iran’s missile capabilities continue to be a major concern for global powers, especially as they are linked to ongoing conflicts and instability in the Middle East and Europe.
