A war monitor reported on Friday that ISIS attacked a military bus in the eastern region of Syria, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 23 Syrian regime soldiers’ lives.
On Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that individuals associated with ISIS attacked a military bus in Deir Ezzor province. This incident comes as remnants of the extremist group continue to intensify their attack efforts.
The assault resulted in the deaths of “23 soldiers and left over 10 others injured,” with some in critical condition, as reported by the UK-based organization that draws on an extensive array of sources within Syria, Alarabia reported.
The Observatory reported that “several soldiers” were missing, as cited by Alrabia.
Despite losing its final territory in Syria in 2019, ISIS has maintained hidden enclaves within the expansive Syrian Desert, leveraging them as bases for executing ambushes and hit-and-run assaults.
In recent weeks, there has been a noticeable surge in the frequency of attacks orchestrated by ISIS members in Syria’s northern and northeastern regions.
Tragically, just this week, an ISIS assault in the once extremist-controlled Raqa province led to the loss of ten lives belonging to Syrian soldiers and pro-government combatants.
The Observatory, a monitoring group, reported this incident on Tuesday, shedding light on the ongoing security challenges of ISIS in the region.
