Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their nations’ strategic partnership during a phone call.
According to Agence France-Presse on Wednesday, September 17, the conversation came just a day after Modi spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump, focusing on the Ukraine crisis and trade restrictions.
Following the call, Putin told a government meeting broadcast on Russian television that ties between Moscow and New Delhi were built on “exceptional trust and friendship.”
Modi echoed that sentiment in a message posted on social media platform X, writing: “We remain committed to enhancing our special and privileged strategic partnership.”
He added that India was prepared to contribute to peaceful solutions in the ongoing Ukraine conflict, reflecting New Delhi’s careful balancing of its international relationships.
The phone call highlights the growing importance of India-Russia relations, even as New Delhi maintains active dialogue with Washington on pressing global challenges.
India’s positioning suggests it will continue to pursue a multi-aligned foreign policy, seeking to strengthen ties with both Russia and the United States while promoting diplomacy on Ukraine.
