United States claims killing Al-Qaeda’s Khorasan leader Muhsin al-Fadhli in an airstrike in Syria earlier this month.
Captain Jeff Davis, the Pentagon’s director of press operations said that al-Fidhli leader of Al-Qaeda’s so-called Khorasan group was killed on July 8 as he travelled in a vehilcle near Sarmada in Idlib province.
“Al-Fadhli was the leader of a network of veteran al-Qaeda operatives, sometimes called the Khorasan Group, who are plotting external attacks against the United States and our allies,” a statement released by the Pentagon’s director of press stated.
“He was a senior al-Qaeda facilitator who was among the few trusted al-Qaeda leaders that received advanced notification of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.”
Washington says that the killing of Al-Fadhli will degrade and disrupt external operations of Al-Qaeda against the United States, its allies, partners and interests.
US officials had earlier said that they believe Al-Fedhli was killed in September but this time they are sure about his death.
The United States had announced a bounty of $7 on the head of Muhsin al-Fadhli, leader of Khorasan group of Al-Qaeda.
The group is described to be a faction of armed fighters to organized to plot attacks against US and other Western targets by using their sanctuaries in Syria.
