The Taliban say two children were killed and two others wounded after artillery fired by Pakistan struck residential areas in Khost Province.
According to Mastaghfar Gurbaz, spokesperson for the Taliban governor in Khost, Pakistani artillery shells hit civilian homes in the “Afghan-Dubai” area of the Spera district on Sunday.
Local sources said several houses belonging to residents were damaged or destroyed during the shelling, raising fears among villagers living close to the border.
Meanwhile, Taliban deputy spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat said another civilian was killed in artillery fire in Kamdesh district of Nuristan Province, where a house was reportedly burned completely.
Cross-border tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban authorities have escalated in recent weeks, with both sides reporting artillery exchanges, airstrikes, and border clashes.
The conflict has also coincided with Pakistan’s forced deportation campaign targeting Afghan refugees, pushing thousands of families back into Afghanistan amid an already severe humanitarian crisis.
Afghanistan continues to face widespread economic hardship, rising living costs, and limited access to basic services, leaving millions dependent on humanitarian assistance.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan recently reported that around 75 civilians have been killed in clashes between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters.
Meanwhile, the continued border violence and humanitarian pressure could worsen instability in already fragile regions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan frontier.
