Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in Islamabad on Tuesday, with both sides calling for deeper cooperation amid shifting regional dynamics.
During the talks, the two officials exchanged views on regional and international developments, focusing on shared security concerns and the need for coordinated responses to emerging challenges.
Sharif, referring to what he called the historic ties between the two neighbours, urged stronger collaboration in areas including trade, border management, energy and counterterrorism.
Larijani echoed that message, stressing that closer coordination between Tehran and Islamabad was essential for maintaining peace and stability across the region.
Both sides emphasised that sustained diplomatic engagement and high-level dialogue would be crucial for preventing escalation and managing disputes at a time of heightened geopolitical strain.
Meanwhile, officials said Pakistan and Iran agreed to strengthen existing institutional mechanisms, explore new areas of cooperation and continue consultations aimed at stabilising the wider region.
They added that the two governments would maintain regular communication to address security and economic issues affecting both sides.
