Nikki Haley, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, achieved a significant victory in the preliminary elections of the Republican Party in Washington D.C., defeating her rival Donald Trump.

On Sunday, March 3, Republicans in the capital city of the United States participated in their party’s primary elections. Ultimately, Nikki Haley secured victory in Washington D.C. with 63% of the vote against Donald Trump’s 33%, thereby claiming all 19 electoral delegates from the city and its district.

Several preliminary elections have been held in various states where former U.S. President Donald Trump has managed to secure more votes and emerge victorious. However, Nikki Haley’s success in Washington D.C. marks a significant moment in U.S. history as she becomes the first woman in the city to win a Republican Party preliminary competition.

Nikki Haley’s triumph in Washington D.C. came after Donald Trump secured significant victories in three states: Michigan, Missouri, and Idaho, elevating his total delegate count to 247 across the United States.

This comes amid former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized President Biden for the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan, citing concerns about the potential resurgence of terrorist threats and the abandonment of Afghan allies.

Trump condemned Biden’s handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, labeling it as chaotic and poorly executed. He expressed dismay over the Taliban’s swift takeover of the country following the U.S. troop withdrawal.

Trump’s criticisms of Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan echoed sentiments from within the Republican Party, with many accusing the Biden administration of incompetence and failing to adequately plan for the consequences of withdrawal.
