Indian police are conducting a comprehensive investigation of the allegations that a newborn died after being attacked by a stray dog in a hospital.
The dog attack, a controversial case, took place in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The parents said the newborn baby was alive in the operating theatre when the dog attacked. However, the hospital officials deny the allegations and say that the infant was stillborn.
Investigations are underway to find out the results of the post-mortem to determine the cause of death. Early evidence suggests that a dog had mauled the baby.
“The baby was inside the operating theatre when a member of the hospital staff came running out of the room, saying a dog had entered,” said the father of the dead infant.
Deathly attack by stray dogs is not something new in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Three separate dog attacks that caused the death of people over the last two years are already registered.
Reports say the hospital has already been shut down as it was running without a license. Meanwhile, the general public’s concerns are growing as to how dog attacks can happen in a hospital and end up to the death of infants.
