Pakistani media reported the suspension of German consulate operations in the southern city of Karachi due to security concerns. Ausaf newspaper, in a report published on Monday, July 8th, stated that the German consulate in Karachi has suspended its services for individuals who are not citizens of the European Union (EU).

According to a statement from the German consulate cited by the media, “Due to imminent security concerns, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany will be closed until further notice for services to non-EU citizens.”

This suspension of services to non-EU citizens comes amidst a temporary halt in providing services to citizens outside the European Union, as a new wave of violent attacks by militants has been reported in the country, including attacks on foreign nationals and police officials in Karachi.

Amid deteriorating relations between Islamabad and Kabul, Pakistan has witnessed a surge in attacks by militants targeting Pakistani officials and foreign citizens. The recent escalation in violence has significantly impacted diplomatic missions and foreign nationals residing in Pakistan, prompting several consulates to suspend or limit their services.

In addition to the German consulate in Karachi, other diplomatic missions and international organizations have also taken precautionary measures due to the heightened security risks.

Reports indicate an increase in targeted assaults on non-Pakistani nationals and local law enforcement agencies, particularly in urban centers like Karachi, where security challenges remain acute.

The escalation in attacks underscores the volatile security environment prevailing in Pakistan, exacerbated by strained relations with neighboring Afghanistan. The rise in militant activities has not only affected diplomatic operations but has also raised concerns among the international community regarding safety and security in the region.
