First Deputy Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar heading a delegation visited northern Sar-e-pul province and inaugurated an oil well named Qashqari.
Mullah Baradar said that the project is of great importance for the economic growth of Afghanistan adding that the IEA is committed to making efforts in building infrastructure.
“This project is like the budget to the entire country, the budget does not mean to be used in a single sector but there are channels for that in all around the world. When we collect the money, we will pay the salaries and will use it in development projects.” Said Mullah Baradar.
The project is said to be capable of producing up to 200 tones of oil on daily bases that is worth 150 thousand USD while thousands of people will get direct or indirect employment during the project.
Acting Minister of Oil and Petroleum Shahabudin Delawar who was accompanying Baradar said that the project will completely be run by Afghans.
Sar-e-pul and Faryab provinces have three mines of oil namely Qashqari, Bazar Kami, and Zamarud Sai that possess approximately 87 million barrels of oil.
The contract for the project was given to China by the previous Afghan government and the IEA also asked the country to begin extraction which could not happen.
