In a stabbing incident at a public library located near a busy shopping area in Vancouver suburb, a woman was killed and five others were injured, Reuters reported.

According to Reuters Canadian security officials detained the lone suspect.

The assault happened during the afternoon and investigators appealed for witnesses and evidence, especially those who captured the moment and later posted the videos on social media.

Police Sgt. Frank Jang said told reporters “We have six victims who sustained stab wounds. We have a victim who has sadly succumbed to injuries. That victim is a woman,”.

“We believe we have the lone suspect in custody… Obviously, the question is why did this happen,” Jang indicated that the suspect was later detained following the brutal attack.

Canadian cops did not further provide details of the victims.

A video from the scene showed a man injuring himself with a knife before being arrested, Reuters reported.

The suspect who reportedly has a criminal record, no updates are given into his condition.

The motive behind the attack is currently unknown.

Justin Trudeau, Canada’s Prime Minister tweeted, that “My heart is in North Vancouver tonight,” he added, “Know that all Canadians are keeping you in our thoughts and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured”.
