International media reported on Wednesday, June 19, that the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, was welcomed by Kim Jong Un at the airport.

This is Putin’s fourth meeting with Kim Jong Un since 2019.

The Kremlin stated that after 24 years, a Russian president is visiting North Korea. The last visit by a Russian president to North Korea was in 2000, as reported by TASS News Agency.

In an article published in North Korea’s Rodong Sinmun newspaper before his visit, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed Russia’s readiness to cooperate closely with North Korea to make international relations more democratic and stable.

Putin emphasized in the article that Russia and North Korea will expand their trade and security relations to a degree that the West cannot control.

The White House has expressed concern about the growing closeness between Moscow and Pyongyang.

After he visits North Korea, Putin will travel to Vietnam.

In addition to these developments, North Korea has reportedly sent fresh military shipments to Russia amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

These shipments include artillery shells and other military equipment, indicating an increased military collaboration between the two nations.

The military support from North Korea is seen as a significant boost for Russia, which has been facing international sanctions and isolation due to its invasion of Ukraine. This development is likely to escalate tensions and complicate the dynamics of the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine and its allies have condemned the military aid from North Korea to Russia, calling it a violation of international norms and an act that further destabilizes the region. The international community is closely monitoring these interactions as they may lead to a realignment of power structures and alliances.
