Cabinet law committee ordered a new rule on women rights, saying the virginity testing without consent of the woman and a court order is punishable to imprisonment.

It came at the time, Second Vice President Sarwar Danish held an exclusive meeting on amendment of the article on virginity testing in the criminal code, calling the examination illegal without consent of the concerned individual.

The members of the meeting explained, in order to preserve the human dignity of women and to observe human rights standards, the virginity test should be performed at the same time with the consent of the woman and the competent court ruling, according to a statement by the Second VP press office.

Last year, the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission called for an unconditional ban of virginity testing.
