As defense ministers from a handful of nations gathered at an air base in Germany to discuss actively supporting Ukraine to counter the Russian invasion, in the long run, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on Thursday that US President Joe Biden had authorized an additional $675 million in weapons for Ukraine.

The American defense official announced at the beginning of a meeting of several defense ministers at the German air base of Ramstein that the meeting will discuss how to collaborate to enhance their own long-term military industrial bases and train Ukrainian troops.

According to The Washington Post, which cited an unnamed US official, the US will include more rounds of the artillery rocket launchers that the Ukrainian military has been using to precisely target Russian forces in its new security package.

In addition to the rocket system, the package will include vehicles and other equipment for the Ukrainian soldiers to help them in countering the Russian invasion.

On Wednesday, August 24, in honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Biden presented a nearly $3 billion security assistance package to aid Kyiv in resisting the Russian invasion.

Earlier, Russian media, which cited a military-diplomatic source, reported that the US Department of Defense recruits former Afghan special unit members and military pilots, who will receive training and will be deployed to “combat zones” in Ukraine.
