Three U.S. officials told Reuters that Washington is preparing a $275 million arms aid package for Kyiv.

According to the report, the package includes 155mm artillery shells, air defense ammunition, and ground vehicle equipment.

The U.S. officials disclosing this information have chosen to remain anonymous.

Russia recently targeted the city of Kharkiv in northeastern Ukraine and initiated attacks in northern Ukraine in May. Ukraine states that these attacks are currently halted on two fronts.

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, claimed on May 18 that the primary objective of the Russian army’s advance in northeastern Ukraine and the Kharkiv region is to create a “buffer zone” to protect Russian soil from Kyiv’s attacks.

Military aid is set to begin on Friday, June 4. This marks the fourth instalment of military assistance to Ukraine since Congress approved the Foreign Aid Bill late last month, a commitment the Biden administration pledged to fulfil by providing arms regularly and expeditiously to Kyiv.

The new U.S. aid, likely formally announced on Friday, is executed using the President’s emergency powers without congressional approval.

Congress previously approved a $6 billion U.S. aid package to Ukraine in various forms, with $8 billion allocated to the President’s specific authorities.
