US Special envoy condemns Kandahar suicide attack

Following reactions to the suicide attack in Kandahar province, Rina Amiri, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Women’s Affairs and Human Rights, condemned the attack and called for the perpetrators of such incidents to be prosecuted.

On Saturday, March 23, she condemned the recent suicide attack in Kandahar province on her social media platform X.

She emphasized, “We condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Kandahar that resulted in tragic casualties and injuries.”

According to the U.S. Special Representative for Afghan Women’s Affairs and Human Rights, Afghans have suffered enough, and the perpetrators of such incidents must be brought to justice.

On Thursday, March 21, the suicide attack took place in the vicinity of the first district of Kandahar city, targeting the provincial bank office, which elicited international reactions.

Reports indicate that more than 45 people lost their lives in this attack, with 56 others injured.

Additionally, the Japanese Embassy in Afghanistan also condemned this attack and emphasized that such “terrorist attacks” must be stopped immediately.

It is worth mentioning that Karen Decker, the U.S. Embassy’s Charge d’Affaires for Afghanistan based in Qatar, Thomas West, the U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, the foreign ministries of Iran and Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and several former Afghan government figures have also condemned this attack.
