A US Senator has expressed deep concerns about ‘China’s expanding influence in Afghanistan.’

Eric Schmitt, in an interview, stated that the United States had a significant airbase in Afghanistan that is now drawing the attention of China.

In an exclusive conversation with Afghanistan International, Eric Schmidt characterized America’s exit from Afghanistan as a tragedy and remarked that “we are now seeing its consequences on a global scale.”

Previously, former President Donald Trump had suggested that the United States should maintain Bagram Air Base north of Kabul even after leaving Afghanistan.

US forces vacated Bagram Air Base in advance of their withdrawal from Kabul International Airport.

Senator Schmitt criticized the Biden administration for appearing weak and indicated that the exit from Afghanistan was mishandled.

The US Senator also pointed out the military equipment left behind by the US Army in Afghanistan, which he claimed has now fallen into the hands of those who oppress others.

Senator Schmitt added that the American people prefer to see further discussions about supporting human rights, women’s rights, and freedom of speech in Afghanistan.

With the upcoming presidential elections in the United States, he expressed his support for Donald Trump, stating, “Leaders like Xi Jinping know that Trump wants a powerful America. Xi Jinping, Putin, and others know that Trump does what he says and wouldn’t allow what happened in Afghanistan to occur.”
