The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, known as SIGAR, has stated that even two years after the complete withdrawal of international forces, the United States remains the most significant contributor to Afghanistan’s reconstruction efforts.

In the quarterly report on November 1st, released for presentation to the U.S. Congress, it was revealed that the United States has allocated $11.1 billion to address the situation in Afghanistan and support Afghan refugees.

Meanwhile, Thomas West, in his recent statement on his social media platform X, expressed the pride of the United States in contributing $9 million to assist earthquake victims in Herat.

This contribution is the largest donor for the critical activities of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in migration and community stability.

He further elaborated that discussions with IOM UN Migration have focused on aiding earthquake victims, addressing the escalating challenges of refugees, supporting humanitarian assistance, and ensuring the safety of Afghans.

The latest SIGAR report underscores the alarming humanitarian crisis unfolding in Afghanistan, where the demand for life-saving assistance has surged to an unprecedented level, surpassing 29 million individuals.

This sobering statistic serves as a stark reminder of the dire circumstances faced by Afghan civilians, who are grappling with food insecurity, healthcare shortages, and necessities that are increasingly out of reach. As the international community grapples with how to address these pressing needs, concerted efforts must be made to alleviate the suffering of the Afghan people and provide them with the support they urgently require.
