US missile attack kill 3 militants in North Waziristan

Immigration News

A US drone strike targeting a vehicle on Saturday killed at least three suspected militants in North Waziristan area near the Afghan border, security officials said.

The drone fired missiles at the car in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan Agency. Three persons in the vehicle were killed instantly, officials were quoted as saying by TV news channels.

Drones continued hovering over the area after the strike, causing tensions among local residents.

This was the first US drone strike in Pakistan’s tribal belt since violent protests erupted across the country against the anti-Islam film Innocence of Muslims.

“The identity of the victims was immediately unclear but this area is mostly occupied by members of the militant commander Gul Bahadur’s group,” a security official in Peshawar told AFP.

Another official on the ground in Miranshah said that the vehicle had been driving through a village 35 kilometers (around 20 miles) west of Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan tribal district.

The attack comes as Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar is visiting Washington to discuss a range of issues, including how to resolve differences over U.S. drone attacks in Pakistan.

The CIA-run drone program is controversial in Pakistan, where many call it a violation of the country’s sovereignty.
