Quadrilateral Security Dialogue foreign ministers from the United States, Japan, Australia and India are set to meet in New Delhi next week, Japanese and US officials said.
Japan’s foreign ministry said Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi will travel to India on a three-day visit starting Monday to attend the Quad meeting.
The US State Department also announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit India after participating in NATO foreign ministers’ talks in Sweden.
The Quad has expanded cooperation in recent years on regional security, maritime stability, technology and economic coordination across the Indo-Pacific region.
The Quad is widely viewed as a strategic partnership aimed at balancing China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific, although member states say the group supports a “free and open” region rather than targeting any single country.
Tensions in the Indo-Pacific have increased in recent years over disputes in the South China Sea, Taiwan Strait security concerns and growing military competition between China and the United States and its allies.
