US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman arrives in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday, October 8 who is due to discuss Afghanistan and regional peace with the Pakistani authorities.
Wendy Sherman is on a two-day visit to Pakistan and met with the foreign minister of the host country Shah Mahmoud Qureshi.
Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said that Afghanistan’s issue must be solved peacefully and added that Pakistan and the US have a similar stance in this regard.
The US deputy secretary of State has thanked Pakistan for its contribution and cooperation in the evacuation mission from Kabul.
The Pakistani foreign minister expressed hopes for the recent changes in Afghanistan to lead to peace and stability and betterment of the lives of the Afghan people.
Qureshi added that an all-inclusive government is the only option in Afghanistan that can be acceptable for the international community.
“The current situation in Afghanistan behooves positive international interaction, providing human and financial resources, and specific initiatives to boost the economy of the country.” Said Qureshi.
Pakistan has been one of the biggest lobbyists for the recognition of the Taliban and encouraging the world to engage with Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.
