Unidentified armed men gun down woman in Sar-e-Pul’s Kohistanat District

Sari-Pul- Police headquartersUnidentified gunmen have shot dead a newly married woman in Kohistanat District of northern Sar-e-Pul province.

Akhtar Bibi, 40, had been imprisoned on adultery charges for one year. Upon release from jail, she married a relative and continued ordinary life in her village.

Reports suggest that she was mysteriously killed on Wednesday night.

Governor of Sar-e-Pul province has confirmed the incident. However, he did not provided further details into it.

Meanwhile, head of the Directorate of Women Affairs of Sar-e-Pul province said Akhtar Bibi was gunned down in front of her house.

Nasima Arzo while strongly condemning the incident urged government to arrest the perpetrators and punish them.

Kohistanat is one of the restive districts of Sar-e-Pul where several areas are being controlled by Taliban.

However, the group has not yet commented on the report.
