The United Nations office in Kabul has expressed shock and horror at the “deadly terrorist attack” on civilians and unarmed tourists in Bamyan.

UNAMA has extended its condolences to the victims of this incident and stated its assistance in facilitating investigations.

“UNAMA is deeply shocked and appalled by the deadly terrorist attack on unarmed civilians and tourists in Bamyan, central Afghanistan,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan has also condemned the event, stating that violence must be halted immediately.

The Spanish Foreign Minister has stated that three citizens of Spain were killed in Bamyan, and another citizen of Spain was injured. According to French news agency sources, three other wounded individuals are citizens of Norway, Australia, and Lithuania.

Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, expressed shock at the news of Spanish tourists being killed in Afghanistan. He promised to follow up on this event.

The Taliban has confirmed that four individuals, including three Spanish citizens and one Afghan citizen, were killed in a shooting in Bamyan on Friday, May 17, with seven others, including four foreign citizens, wounded.

The Taliban claims that four individuals suspected of involvement in this attack have been detained.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for this attack.

Meanwhile, Friday’s attack in Bamyan was unprecedented in recent years. In the twenty years of the Republic, Bamyan has been one of the safest and most attractive destinations for both foreign and domestic tourists.

The attack on foreign tourists in the heart of Bamyan challenges the Taliban’s claim of providing overall security in Afghanistan.
