The caretaker government in Afghanistan banned Afghan women and girls from universities and women employees of national and international organizations on December 2022.

Recently in a press statement, the Security Council’s members expressed their deep concern over suspended Afghan females from universities and schools.

On the other hand, The UNSC’s members are profoundly concerned about preventing Afghan female employees of NGOs and international organizations from going to work.

The press stated that “banning employee’s women would have a significant and immediate impact on humanitarian operations in the country, including those of the United Nations, and the delivery of aid and health work.”

The statement calls upon the IEA government to “reopen schools” and “swiftly reverse” these policies and practices, representing an increasing erosion of the respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, the statement read.

The UNSC’s members once again expressed their full support to the UN special representative in Afghanistan and its significant role in carrying out his mandate and continuing engagement with all relevant authorities, political actors and stakeholders in Afghanistan.

Since the IEA’s ban on women attending public and private universities and subsequent ban on women working for NGOs, many top international organizations halted their work in Afghanistan. They announced they could not continue their work “without female staff.”

On the other hand, the current policies and practices of the caretaker government in Afghanistan led to numerous international and Muslim countries’ condemnations.
