United Nations re-elected Pakistan to its Committee of Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) following the election that took place at the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN in New York on 13th April, 2022.

This is the country’s seventh time being elected to the committee, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The committee is an intergovernmental body that oversees the implementation of the legal framework governing NGOs’ participation in the work of the United Nations.

“Pakistan’s election to the committee reflects the confidence of the international community in its role and contribution to the work of the United Nations. Pakistan will continue to promote cooperation between the UN and civil society organizations working alongside governments to improve the lives of people all around the world.” Reads the press release.

The press release further reads that Pakistan has been committed to involving society in multilateral discussions aim to resolve common challenges facing humanity.
