UN, Iran Condemn Explosion on Shiite Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif

The United Nations Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett has taken to his Twitter post and termed recent attacks against the Hazara community systematic attacks.

Richard Bennett called for immediate investigation, accountability, and an end to such human rights violations.

“Today, more explosions rocks Afghanistan, striking Shia mosque in Mazar e Sharif and again the systematically targeted attacks on crowded schools and mosques.” Reads the Twitter post.

In the meantime, Iran’s embassy in Kabul condemned the explosion against Hazara worshipers and expressed deepest condolences to the families of the victims while asking highest reward for martyrs of the incident.

The embassy in a Tweet termed the attack a terrorist one.

The spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Zabiullah Mujahid also condemned the explosion of Mazar-e-Sharif including that in the northern Kunduz province and the capital Kabul.

Zabiullah Mujahid in a Tweet said those who commit such crimes have no relations with Afghan society.

The Twitter post reads, IEA has good experience in eliminating vehement elements, the perpetrators will be arrested and will be held accountable.

An explosion in a Hazara mosque in the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city killed at least 34 worshipers and wounded more than 80 more on Thursday afternoon.
