UN Deputy Chief urges Afghanistan to form an inclusive government that ‘includes women too.’

Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed on Sunday, in an interview with Tolonews, called on the de facto authorities to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Mohammad also added that women and girls should not be excluded; they are part of the society, and the International community has a “set of principles, norms and standards” for Afghanistan to consider them.

Based on these principles, Mohammad stated that the international community wants to engage with the de facto authorities and urged them to create “an inclusive, diverse and representative government in Afghanistan” which Afghan women could represent.

Earlier this week, the United Nations delegation also warned the caretaker authorities that isolating women would lead to the further isolation of Afghanistan.

“The recent bans issued by the de facto officials restricting women and girls from educational institutions and workplaces are of great concern for the UN. Indeed, these restrictions are isolating Afghanistan amid a terrible humanitarian crisis”, she added.

In addition, the UN emphasized that “The need for a revitalized and realistic political pathway was consistently highlighted, and all remained firm on the fundamental principles, including women’s and girls’ rights to education, work and public life in Afghanistan.”

Meanwhile, Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said in response to the delegations that the UN should not impose its demands on the people of Afghanistan but rather consider the wishes of the Afghan people in this regard.
