The UN Secretary-General expressed concern on Friday about escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, warning that a miscalculation could trigger a catastrophe far beyond imagination.

Guterres told reporters, “A hasty move, a miscalculation, could start a disaster far beyond borders and, frankly, beyond imagination. Let’s be clear: the people of the region and the people of the world cannot tolerate Lebanon becoming another Gaza.”

Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, warned that if Israel conducts a military attack on Lebanon, “no part of Israel” will be safe from the group’s attacks. In a video speech broadcast on Wednesday, he emphasized that if Israel attacks, Hezbollah will engage in “unlimited, rule less, and boundless war.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the Israeli army, told the Arabic magazine Al Arabiya that all options are on the table to confront Hezbollah. Earlier, the Israeli cabinet approved a plan to counter Hezbollah if the group attacks Israel.

UN peacekeeping forces and unarmed technical observers have long been stationed in southern Lebanon to monitor hostilities along the border line between Lebanon and Israel, known as the Blue Line.

Guterres said, “UN peacekeeping forces are working to reduce tension and help prevent miscalculations.”

Meanwhile, In southern Lebanon, tens of thousands of Lebanese have also left their homes due to Israeli attacks.
