The United Nations General Assembly passed a non-binding resolution on Thursday demanding Russia withdraw its forces from Ukraine, amid the escalations and rising tensions between the warring parties.

The resolution was approved with 141 votes in favor, 7 votes against, and 32 abstentions. Afghanistan representative at the UN voted in favor of the resolution.

North Korea, Belarus, Nicaragua, Mali, Eretria, Syria, and Russia voted against the resolution, whereas, China, Pakistan, India, and Iran restrained from voting either against or in favor of the resolution.

Iran sells weapons to Russia and in opposition to the United States, the Islamic Regime shares common political objectives with Russia. Furthermore, China, India, and Pakistan import gas at a relatively lower price from Russia, and do not want to tarnish their relations with Russia.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s representative at the United Nations along with 140 other nations demanded that Russian forces end the conflict, and withdraw from Ukraine.

Over the past two days, diplomats and foreign ministers from more than 75 countries spoke about the Russia-Ukraine conflict and defended the national sovereignty of Ukraine. They called on Russia to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Since the outbreak of the Ukraine war in February 2022, the Western governments have been continuously trying to isolate Russia on international stages. Imposing sanctions of different kinds on Russian politicians, diplomats, and business entities is another strategy.

Recently, the United States has accused China of possibly selling weapons to Russia and warned of the possible consequences. This comes from the U.S. and NATO member states continuously delivering military supplies to Ukraine. Instead of seeking solutions to end the ongoing conflict, the western powers are fueling the fire equipping the Ukrainians with sophisticated weapons.
