The U.S. Special Adviser for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad has met with the leader of Hezb Islami Gulbuddin Hekmatyar in Kabul.

The Cultural Affairs Directorate of Hezb Islami in a statement said the two sides held talks on some key issues related to national and international affairs.

The statement further added that the Ambassador Khalilzad and Mr. Hekmatyar held talks on the prospects to end the ongoing war, peace, upcoming elections, and some other important issues.

Hailing the Hezb Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s efforts for reconciliation, Ambassador Khalilzad requested the Hezb Islami leader for further cooperation in reconciliation efforts.

In his turn, Hekmatyar assured Ambassador Khalilzad of all-out support of Hezb Islami to end the conflict and assist with the Afghan-led reconciliation process.

He said the Hezb Islami and all Afghans demand lasting and sustainable peace emphasizing that the dignity of the Afghans should be considered in all reconciliation efforts and the process must be acceptable to all Afghans, the statement added.

He also emphasized on a free and fair election and said a transparency election is the only way to take the country out of the current crisis.
