A U.S. soldier has been killed in an attack by the anti-government armed militants in Afghanistan, the NATO-led Resolute Support mission said late on Tuesday.
“One U.S. service member was killed in Afghanistan today as a result of enemy small arms fire,” the alliance said in a statement.
No further details have been given regarding the exact location of the incident but the statement by the Resolute Support mission added that “The incident is under investigation.”
The identity of the deceased service member has also not been disclosed by Resolute Support, stating that “In accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the name of the service member killed in action is being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete. We will share additional information as appropriate.”
Two U.S. service members have lost their lives in various incidents since the beginning of the year 2019.
